Let's Talk
Parents with children in the PAUSD Special Education programs are invited to get together. This will be an opportunity to meet other parents and ask questions. You will have the chance to network among parents who otherwise might feel isolated by having a child with troublesome behavior, learning disabilities, physical challenges, or sensory loss.
As parents, we may wish to exchange with each other on a range of topics from dealing with spouses and siblings, to building self-esteem, and mids of all the challenges, finding joy in our children.
December 5th
As part of Inclusive Schools Week, CAC & PTA Council proudly present photojournalist Dan Habib's award-winning documentary:
INCLUDING SAMUEL
This film presents an honest look at school's approaches to including students with disabilities. It chronicles the Habib family's efforts to include their son in every facet of their lives and community. Interviews with disabled adults, teachers, parents and principals present a forward-looking view into inclusion from multiple perspectives.
Teens, parents, teachers, staff, and community members are invited to join together for this exploration of inclusion and participate in a discussion related to connectedness for students of all abilities. The 58 min. film will be followed by a conversation facilitated by Dr. Holly Wade (Director of Special Ed) and Camille Townsend (PAUSD school board member).
Light snacks provided. Simultaneous Spanish translation. Para preguntas en español, Sue Diaz (650) 281 8897

Palo Alto CAC Discussion List
The Palo Alto CAC Discussion group is a place where parents can learn about special ed events. It's also a forum for discussing issues that arise in our children's schooling and life in general. To keep informed and/or to ask questions sign up at: Palo Alto CAC Discussion Group
Autism Spectrum Disorders Yahoo News Group
The Palo Alto CAC ASD group serves as a parent network where parents
share their experiences to support families that are new or well into
their way of collaborating with the school district for an effective
educational program. The group’s discussions range from common
concerns such as inclusion readiness, sensory integration, social
development, etc. to demystifying autism in the community, general
autism training for general education teachers, etc. From these
discussions, creative solutions get discovered, and initiatives get
developed to effectively advocate for a child’s educational plan. In
addition to parent to parent discussions, our activities include
parent educational programs from professionals in the ASD field, and
direction/planning from school administrators.
As a group, CAC ASD promotes collaboration between parents, school
district administrators, teachers, aides and principals to provide a
school environment and accommodations in order to promote not just
academic learning, but social and emotional development for children
on the spectrum. If you have a child with ASD and receiving services
from the Palo Alto Unified School District (PAUSD), please consider
joining the group whether it’s for informational purposes or direct
involvement in continuous improvement of the ASD educational
programs. To join, please go to
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/cac-asd/ and click the button “join
this group.” For new members, please be sure to check the Files
section for uploaded meeting minutes and educational documents. |
